A ghoul's gnawing hunger for living flesh is never sated. It drives them in a neverending hunt for more victims. They haunt graveyards, battlefields, and crypts, dwelling any place where bodies are discarded or left unattended. Ghouls were once intelligent, evil humanoids who either turned to cannibalism, or lived lives of gluttony and greed, causing them to be cursed in death. Unlike a zombie or a skeleton, a ghoul retains sentience and many of the memories of it's life. However, it's perspective is twisted by it's death so that it recalls with torment a time when it was not driven by a gnawing hunger for living flesh. In the transformation, the skin sloughs away or turns a sickly cast of gray or green, the ghoul grows sharp teeth and claws to rend flesh and crack bones, and a long slender tongue to get at the soft marrow inside.
